Gambling can be satisfying when one wins. The hours that are spent in order to win are so many that one gradually loses touch with his family, friends, relatives. In that way one is isolated from his closest ones and is starting to create new contacts that consist mostly of his teammates. Of course these new contacts are superficial as one communicates within the game without having to develop more effective communication. We need to emphasize the case where the player is by himself when gambling by computer. In that case the only company is the computer screen.
Initially the player is charmed by the game, excited by the profits and the constant effort to succeed. One is possessed of a sweet sensation that captures and traps him in order to keep gambling. His thought is occupied with the game without paying attention to those around him. His closest ones feel neglected because he doesn’t spend time with them. They conclude that gambling is his first priority. This attitude makes his closest ones to feel sadness, frustration, anger towards him. He doesn’t understand the consequences of his behavior as he is absorbed by the game.
Later on he might not look after himself. For example he might not eat properly, not sleep properly, not follow the hygiene rules. He might also misbehave to his closest ones, especially when he loses. Then those around him may try to motivate him in order to change and if they see that there is no change then they abandon him. So the computer turns out to be his only friend.
It is obvious that gambling isolates and emotionally insulates him from those around him. His life is in the realm of fantasy and is cut off from reality. One wonders, what is important, a life without friends, without sharing emotions and beautiful moments? The answer depends on you as you can choose and define your life.
